Kinley woke me up one morning with a little doodle on a purple scrap of construction paper and a big crafty idea from her dreams the night before -- VALENTINE RAINBOWS! Why the heck not, right?! She had me at rainbows. And valentines. And crafty dreams! 😍😊
We worked together to come up with this super simple and crazy sweet little project and I think you and your little artist buddies are gonna love it! Valentine rainbows are totally perfect for a preschool or kindergarten Valentine's Day party because you've probably already got everything you need on hand, no one will need help with any of the easy steps*, it's quick and you're looking at a Level 1 Clean-up (wet paper towel only! 🤓), baby!
*Before you get started, you will probably need to precut the little rainbow shapes, unless your artist buddies are bigger and will breeze through cardboard cutting. We used scrap cereal box cardboard which isn't as tough as the cardboard shipping box stuff, but it could be rough with safety scissors. Your call!
(You can make your rainbows whatever size you want, but our rainbows are about 5 inches wide and 4 inches tall, just in case you wondered.)
For this project, you'll need:
- pre-cut cardboard rainbows (see above)
- tempera sticks
- googly eyes
- white glue
- cotton balls
- black permanent marker or paint pen
1. Make your rainbow all rainbow-y.
This is the best part IMO 😁 You can limit the available tempera stick palette to Valentine's colors if you want to make sure they turn out looking like valentine rainbows, or you can put out all the colors and just see what happens. They are pretty much guaranteed to be cute, that's fo sho!
2. Glue on the cotton ball clouds.
Encourage your buddies to pull on the cotton balls a little to fluff them up and make them look a little more cloud-like before sticking them to their rainbows.
3. Glue on the googly eyes and use the marker to make a little mouth.
Kinley gave this one a little tempera stick nose, too 😍 Anything goes with these little cuties!
That's it! Doesn't get much easier (or cuter) than that, does it? If you like this one, I've compiled a whole list of our easy + fun Valentine's Day faves that you'll probably like, too. And we're always sharing new stuff like this over on Instagram @raising.kinley, too 😁
If you have any questions, just holler! I'm always happy to help!
If you try our little valentine rainbows and share them on social media, please tag us. Kinley and I love to see our artsy ideas out in the world making other people happy and this one would get her extra amped! I would be happy to share your post in my Instagram stories, too 😁😁
Happy making! And Happy Valentine's Day!
xoxo Cara
